Patrick Nasmyth was the son of the famous landscape painter, Alexander Nasmyth, who taught him the basics of drawing and painting. An accident to his right hand when he was young meant he had to relearn his craft with his left hand, he was also partially deaf as a result of a childhood illness. He moved to London and was strongly influenced by the 17th century Dutch landscape artists, he even became known as the ‘Scottish Hobbema’. His charming scenes of country life proved popular with many collectors.
